Winter is Back!

The weather people promised up to a foot of snow and they delivered. This is what we woke up to this morning looking out on the back deck and out the front balcony. Yesterday I was on my tractor grading the driveway and it had been about 10 C above normal for the past couple of weeks.

The young and the old

Imogen has such tiny fingers and she can wrap them so strongly around mine. It is interesting what 60 years of ageing does to the skin. (I'll be 60 this summer.) She is also starting to stand by holding her own weight although she needs help to balance. She can sit up but she doesn't discuss much about politics yet.

No longer Ruthless and first time at Ellis's home

Ruth, Jennifer, John and Imogen arrived back from their 7 day trip to Jamaica. They got to visit Ruth's mom who is 84 and they had 4 generations in the same place. The next day Saturday March 15 was Roger Peterson's funeral in Weyburn, so I drove to Regina with Bernard and met up with the Krogsgaard clan in Regina and had the privilege of travelling with Richard, Wendy Ulrich, Bernard and his son Kresten, and Ellis to Weyburn. I would estimate that there were well over 400 people at the funeral. Bill and Vi Bell were well enough to attend the funeral and the visiting after, and Bill and Mary and Sheena got snapped by the "poppa-ratzi". Bill and Mary and Andrea are on their way to India to visit Ray and Ellen with their LST team.
(On the way back from Weyburn, Kresten rode with someone else. ) It was again a privilege to ride with a group that you knew was not going to talk about trivial matters. (Right in the city of Weyburn we were slowed down by a herd of 15 whitetail deer crossing the street.) After gassing up the car in Regina, I don't remember passing through any of the towns except Chamberlain where we had to slow down. The trip seemed to take about 5 minutes although Bernard seemed to have talked for several hours! If he had talked a little faster, maybe the trip would have seemed to take only 4 minutes. Anyway, I enjoyed every minute of it.

Off to Jamaica

John, Jennifer and Imogen Wallace along with Ruth in the Saskatoon airport at 6:00 AM just before going through security. They arrived safely and Ruth phoned me about 5:00 PM to say that they had arrived at Mt. Carey where Ruth's sister Joan lives. They will be back by Friday evening, Lord willing.

Ruth's 40th year in Canada

Ruth told me Monday that she wanted a party to celebrate her 40th Anniversary of coming to Canada. I e-mailed Jennifer but by Wednesday she hadn't read the message so on Wed. evening and Thursday evening we invited a few church friends, family and neighbours over. There were 32 who came on short notice to our Friday night party.
February 29, 1968 was the day that she arrived. She spent a year working at the Weyburn General Hospital and then she applied for a job in two places: Nanimo, BC and the University Hospital in Saskatoon. She decided to accept the offer in Saskatoon because she wouldn't have to go through the bother of re-registering in another province. I met her at the Albert St. church building and where I managed to share a song book with her. She told me later that she thought that that was a bit weird because there were lots of other song books that I could have used! In a couple of months I proposed to her but she didn't give me an answer for about a year. I still remember the thrill of her saying, "YES!" Then she made me wait another year to actually get married. We married in 1971 and it was in 1980 that Ruth finally applied for her Canadian citizenship.

The Table that Great Uncle Archie built

My apologies to Angela that I stole a picture off her blog but my brother wanted to see a picture of the table and chairs, that he put together, being used. So, this is for you Archie, a picture of Ivan and Dominique in Abilene, TX having high tea.

Moon Eclipse

The sun was setting in the west as the full moon was rising in the east and we were on our way to Wed. night Bible study when we took the first picture.
The rusty-brown picture occurred when there was a total eclipse.

Valentine's Day Baby Shower

Ruth held a baby shower for the newest arrival in our congregation Isabella. Stacey is holding her daughter, Comfort is holding Marsay, and Jennifer is holding Imogen. The next picture is of Imogen holding her grandpa's finger.

The young and the old

On Sunday a group from the church went to visit Arzetita Perry and we spent a half hour or so singing. She was able to recognize a few of the songs and sing along. (She is 101 years old.) Her comment on the church service coming to her: "This is amazing!" Hugh and Irene Lock are the ones who organize the singing.
