An old-fashioned roof raising!

On May 24, 2008 Robert and Melissa Orr invited the church family to an old-fashioned roof raising at their house on St. Andrew's Avenue. About 40 people showed up (including women, children and babies) and we had a barbecue at lunchtime and pizza for supper. Andrew and I got there shortly after 9:00 AM and we didn't leave until about 9:30 With the two breaks for meals we probably put in at least 11 hours of work! There were others who probably did more than 12 hours namely Robert and his dad Harold. What a great time! Thank you Robert and Melissa (and Josiah) for letting us help out.

So, were you guys raising the pitch of the roof? Or just re-shingling it?

so beautiful, the body of Christ in action. I have so many memories of the many days when a bunch of people came out to work and eat and be together doing something good to build our home.

It was great fun! They actually tore off the roof and were preparing the floor of a new level. Next step wall-raising! It rained that night so the work had to get done quickly. Before the rain they managed to figure out how to tarp it so the rain would roll off the roof/floor. Pretty cool.

I can't even imagine how much work that must have been, good job you guys! and by the way, who is the blonde woman standing next to andrew on the roof?

Andrew gained weight. I am shocked. Ruth! Stop feeting him! He has to be on a diet. Ok, just teasing. Well, maybe you should let him run around the house, the garden, the hamlet. *haha*

Thanks Ian and everyone else for all the help! It was a great day on Sat! The walls are now up, roof trusses in place, and hopefully the sheeting done tomorrow.
