Happy father's day

Neil Bailey and Darcy Folk were in town yesterday and there was a birthday celebration for Neil but we were not able to make a connection to get to it. However, Neil and Darcy did join us at Bonanza for lunch and later we had a good visit at Jennifer and John's place where we had ice cream cake. But speak about cakes! After Sunday worship service several of the ladies made a variety of cakes all celebrating father's day. They did a terrific job of decorating them. But what was most unexpected was one of the African ladies in our church Comfort Brewer presented Jean Malm, and Ruth and me with a traditional African outfit. (It was to honor those in the church who were substitute fathers and mothers. In Africa there is much more of a fuss over fathers and mothers than there is here.) We put the outfits on for the picture.

Radishes from the garden

The first two radishes from what I planted about a month ago. They were juicy and tangy and quite delicious.

33 Years ago!

This is a picture of me holding Jennifer in my left hand and she is standing on her own at 4 months of age. This has become sort of a tradition in our family since I saw a picture of my mom holding my younger brother Peter when he was about that old. This picture was taken about August in 1976.

Bathroom reno

Andrew and I did a bathroom renovation at one of the rentals. We replaced the lino, the toilet (a 3 litre + 6 litre flush) and the sink and vanity.

Corinne Lamb has gone to a better place

Beside the picture of Corinne Lamb is Aysia, Kelly, Emily, Jacob, Cory, Adam, Candace, Victoria, Krista and Susan and the baby Alexander. Susan did a wonderful job of a Power-Point slide show for the memorial service. I was able to slip away from my second period class to get to the funeral service and after a quick lunch (which was also wonderful), I got back to work with 6 minutes to spare for my 1:00 class.

A Saturday with Grampa

It was a great day for Imogen to visit with Grandpa all day last Saturday when both of her parents needed a break and were not feeling well. The first thing that we did was buy a battery for the van that will soon be sold. Then we went to the Coop where the Saskatoon Pipe band was playing. After picking up some groceries we left for the acreage where Imogen checked out the pond. (We don't have the fish in it yet.) Imogen got to swing in the hammock chair and to be read to by her grandma. Later we went to the 20th celebration of Heather and Murray Smith's wedding anniversary were Imogen had supper. We finally got her back to her parents by about 8:00 in the evening.

Finally Spring has arrived

Ruth was able to rescue a crocus plant from the side of the road and was able to transplant it and it has flourished in one of her flower beds. She put a small fence around it to keep the deer and rabbits from eating the flowers.

I cleaned up the garden and put a pile of leaves in the corner of it for composting. I am hoping to finish planting the garden today.

I finally got a wood chipper to get rid of the many tree branches that have accumulated over the years. We'll use the wood chips around some trees to keep the weeds down and help preserve moisture.

It is a kilt!

Andrew is getting married this coming August and both he and I will be dressed in kilts. Andrea wanted Andrew to be dressed in a kilt and I agreed to also wear one. Don't do like what Ruth and Angela did when they heard: they laughed.

Hot feet and Spring has finally arrived

I have been wearing sandals all year around for several years and I often tell people that this is evidence of global warming and I tell them that my feet are so hot that they will melt snow. Yesterday it got up to + 20 Celsius and most of the snow melted. However, there was one small drift left on the deck on the north side of the house so I thought that I would prove that my feet would melt the snow.

The hibiscus plant also decided to bloom today and look out the window at the coming of spring.
